Mayor_1(1)Mayor’s Welcome:

We are delighted you have chosen the City of Canton as your home. On behalf of the City Council, staff, citizens and local businesses, I extend a warm welcome to you and your family!

Those of us who live in Canton have the distinct pleasure of living in the biggest little town in Texas where, once every month, we play host to the nearly 200,000 visitors of our world-famous First Monday Trade Days. But, if you’ve only visited Canton on First Monday, you really haven’t experienced Canton at all. You see, when our company goes home, we relax, settle in, and enjoy the quality of small town living that so many people seem to be longing for these days. It’s this kind of life we’re honored to share with you and your family.

At a time when downtown districts are struggling, Canton’s is thriving! Canton has received the distinct honor of being named a Texas and National Main Street City. Downtown is a vital district in Canton’s economy with newly-renovated businesses and shops. Whether it’s downtown or with any of Canton’s retailers, remember to always “Shop Canton First”!

Because of First Monday, we are the beneficiaries of many city services and community amenities that would not normally be available to a City our size. Among those amenities, you’ll find the Plaza Museum housing one of the largest bell collections in the nation, the Blackwell House museum, the County Library, a genealogy library, the CYRA ballpark, a private country club, a public golf course, and the City’s lakes and parks offering swimming, fishing, walking trails, picnic areas, a playground, volleyball, tennis and basketball courts, a lighted baseball field and soccer fields.

In addition to Canton’s exemplary school system with a wide variety of extracurricular programs, there are several sports associations with youth leagues – baseball, soccer, basketball and football, as well as strong, active youth programs at the local churches. Canton also offers several annual events, such as the 4th of July Parade, Festival and Fireworks display; Bluegrass Festival; County Fair; Fall Festival and Autumn Stroll.

All these items add to Canton’s appeal as a family-oriented community with strong moral character and a community-based citizenry. We hope you enjoy the quality of life unique to rural East Texas! Again, thank you for choosing Canton as your home. If there is anything you need, please do not hesitate to contact City Hall at (903) 567-1841.
