Zoning changes may be requested by owner of the property through application at the City Hall, 201 N. Buffalo, Canton. The cost of the application is $200. The zoning request is placed in the paper as a public notice. All property owners within 200 feet of the property are notified of the application. The request is then reviewed by the Planning & Zoning Commission. The Planning & Zoning Commission’s recommendation is then considered by Council.

Variances to the 1985 Zoning Ordinance may be requested by the owner of the property through application at the City Hall, 201 N. Buffalo, Canton. The cost of the application is $200. Property owners within 200 feet of the property are notified of the application. Meetings are held as needed at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday before the Board of Adjustment. The decision regarding the variance is made by this Board.

Specific use permits allow certain uses within base zoning districts that, under most circumstances, would not be compatible with other permitted uses. Certain restrictions or conditions may be placed upon the specific use permit. Application may be made at the City Hall, 201 N. Buffalo, Canton. The fee is $200.00. The matter is placed in the paper and heard before the Planning & Zoning Commission. The Planning & Zoning Commission’s recommendation is then considered by Council.
