Since the Main Street Program was initiated, Canton has had more than $250,000 reinvested in the downtown buildings for restoration and has advanced 15 projects for the betterment of the City in addition to implementing its five-year Master Plan.

Canton entered the Texas Main Street Program in 2001 and has achieved recognition from the National Trust for Historical Preservation for its efforts at revitalization.  As a Main Street America™ Accredited program, Canton Main Street Program is a recognized leading program among the national network of more than 1,200 neighborhoods and communities who share both a commitment to creating high-quality places and to building stronger communities through preservation-based economic development.  All Main Street America™ Accredited programs meet a set of National Accreditation Standards of Performance as outlined by the National Main Street Center.
