Your City of Canton Emergency Management team, Mayor and Council are monitoring the progression of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and its potential impact on the community and city services.
To increase awareness and educate the public, the city has provided the following information.
Coronavirus (COVID-19)- The novel coronavirus, named SARS-CoV2 (COVID-19), is a respiratory virus that was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China in December 2019 and now has been detected globally, including in the United States.
The following information is collected from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) website, www.cdc.gov.
The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are:
- Fever
- Cough
- Headaches
- Fatigue
- Muscle or body aches
- Loss of taste or smell
- Sore throat
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Other symptoms are trouble breathing, chest pain or pressure, difficulty staying awake
Ways to Protect Yourself & Slow the Spread:
- Wear a mask to protect yourself and others
- Stay 6ft apart from others that don't live with you
- Avoid crowds
- Avoid poorly ventilated indoor spaces
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, or use sanitizer if soap and water aren't available
What to Do If You're Sick:
- Stay home except to get medical care
- Isolate yourself from other members of your family to prevent spread (even if you don't feel sick, you can spread COVID-19 to others)
- Get care immediately if you are having emergency warning signs, like trouble breathing, pain or pressure in chest

- Effective 3/19/2020: City Hall is closed to the public. If you need to meet with someone, please call 903-567-1841 to make an appointment. If you need to make a water payment, you can put checks or money orders (with your account number) in the front mail slot or in the South side drop box. And remember, we have online payment options and you can call the Water Dept at 903-567-2826 to pay by credit card.
- Effective 3/18/2020, the City will be closing the animal shelter, all City parks, the CYRA ball park, tennis and basketball courts and the soccer fields until further notice.
